Cedros Wins Vermont School Spelling Bee - Again!

The 13th Annual Vermont School Spelling Bee took place on Friday, May 28th.  Once again Cedros was invited.  We were allowed to send 2 representatives from grade 6.  Juan Pablo Gómez Serrano Olavarrieta and back-up speller Diego Martínez Alaniz were chosen for their excellent english, strong work ethic, and skill in spelling.  Juan Pablo and Diego received a book of almost 1000 words which they had to learn for the contest, including such doozies as "astrophysicist", "guillotine" and "rhythmical", just to name a few.  They spent dozens and dozens of hours leading up to the contest preparing vigilantly.  On the day of the Spelling Bee, Juan Pablo faced off against 12 other spellers from prestigious bilingual schools around the city.  Pressure was high for him as Cedros held the title as winner of the previous Vermont Bee... and we were keen to keep this title!  Juan Pablo won the contest in 6 rounds, spelling with confidence difficult words such as "penicillin" and "spacious" as the other contestants were eliminated.

We are extremely proud of Juan Pablo and Diego for all their hard work and confidence under pressure.  The pressure will indeed be high at next year's Vermont Bee when we battle to retain our First Place crown for the 3rd year in a row.  Excellent work, gentlemen!
